The below image of an egg was posted to set out to dethrone Kylie Jenner from having the most-liked image on Instagram. It may look sincere, but this egg means business and represents many of the fundamental tools you need to spread your content on socials.


This campaign uses an inanimate object forcing viewers to stop, with a clear call to action further engaging its viewers to become the most liked image on Instagram. Consumers respond to content that draws them towards something of interest to them, rather than being the passive recipients of expressly promotional messages, this is why so many were initially drawn to the simple old egg.


The world of marketing is everchanging, and the beauty of social media is that users may - at any given point in time - perform the role of an exceptional individual, exerting their power to social transmit messages. The comparisons between the social network of Kylie Jenner to the egg is a clear example of this.



Jonah Berger explores the principles of why some things catch on in the above video. His researched backed theory is, you need to have:

  1. Craft

  2. Contagious

  3. Content

Now, with that in mind, come back to the egg.

  1. Craft

The craft was within the concept. Who wouldn't want to be involved in dethroning Kylie Jenner?


2. Contagious

It was extremely contagious due to the concept and a clear call to action for followers to engage with.


3. Content

The content made a mockery in the best way possible of the content. Everyone knows what an egg is, making it universally inclusive, and the image is simple and funny.


Now, take a moment to consider times when you've received content so great you've sent it on to a loved one. And then they've sent it on? And then they've sent it on? You see where I'm going with this. It probably had the above formula and spread fast throughout your community.


So, what does this mean for you?


If you've got your social's set up and you've got your content plan developed, the next thing you’ll need to think about is the above formula. It will help you to propel your message and take your socials to the next level. In this climate, to propel your socials to the next level, you need content that will make you go viral.
